Ethical Considerations in the Pharma Industry

Much of the conflict in this novel concerns the issue of who should make a clinical decision when a patient who volunteered for a clinical trial received an investigational drug that didn’t work.  When there is a licensed drug or vaccine to which the failed investigational drug is being compared, it is reasonable to consider whether a patient who received the failed investigational drug/vaccine deserves a dose of the licensed drug/vaccine.  Who should make this decision – the Pharma Company or the patient’s practitioner.

Who do you believe is best equipped to make this decision and why?
