The respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) is a common, highly contagious virus, that typically causes mild symptoms similar to the common cold. In older adults and young children, especially those with underlying conditions, RSV can cause severe infections of the lungs. The two currently licensed vaccines – AREXVY and ABRYSVO – are indicated for the prevention of RSV disease in adults aged 60 and older. Those at highest risk for severe infection include adults with the following underlying disorders: asthma, diabetes, COPD, chronic heart failure, advanced liver or kidney disease or any chronic respiratory disease.
